My first day of school was Monday, the 27th. That Sunday night, I couldn't sleep. First, I was so hot, that I got of the bed, then I just became down-right restless, waking up about every two hours. This was a miserable experience, because I LOVE my sleep! On top of all that, I woke up at about 5:30 that morning. What a night!
It felt so strange walking up to the school building Monday morning. It was extremely crowded, and the students were split up into about four different lines for registration and other nonsense. I walked into the building, went to a room and talked to a few people, then went on to period one.
It seems so strange to "be a senior". This is a year I have been looking forward to for a good long while, and I'm attempting to come to terms with it. With God's help, I will adjust and excel!
An interesting lesson was presented on Sunday night by Doug at a home devo. His lesson came from the text of the hymn I'm Not Ashamed to Own My Lord. He discussed every word of the song, and how we can make application to our lives as we begin school. Here a few of the passages that we discussed:
"as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ASHAMED, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death."Shame is a huge barrier to a Christian's personal impact for Christ, that's why it is addressed so much in the New Testament. Among the long list of the ungodly who will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, are cowards. Imagine that! Cowards are in the same boat as murderers, sorcerers, fornicators, and liars. Interesting.
"For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." Therefore DO NOT BE ASHAMED OF THE TESTIMONY about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God....which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me"
"
One of the beautiful aspects of Paul's last statement above are his sense of knowledge and conviction. He said "I know" and "I am convinced". Paul was a man who refused to compromise his confidence in Jesus. He refused to be ashamed of the Lord and His glorious gospel (Romans 1:16), because he knew the power that the good news about Jesus contains. With confidence come knowledge and conviction.
As I enter this new year, I hope that CONFIDENCE and CONVICTION found in Jesus will rest in my heart.
